Big Boi Loves Some R. Thomas – Outkast Superstar Dishes On Atlanta [Quick Hits]

Today, MTV ran a bit piece on hip-hop’s ultra cool Big Boi.  In the article, Georgia native Antwan André Patton (a.k.a. Big Boi) talks, albeit briefly, about where he likes to eat around ATL.  He named only one spot:

“[We] do a little bit of everything," Big said. "R. Thomas is this nice little joint on Peachtree — 24-hour health-food joint, organic," he explained.

Mister Patton also mentioned how he loves to shop and visit uh… adult places… in around town.

Nice to see an Atlanta institution like R Thomas get some love.  As Big Boi mentioned, this little Brookwood Hills restaurant offers up a pretty diverse sampling of health conscious cuisine.  I myself have an affinity for their deluxe chips and their breakfast options.  Everything on the menu is available 24-7 and is pretty solid.  While they won’t win any culinary awards, R serves up a kitsch experience with consistent food.  I kind of think of it as the yang to the ying of Dynamic Dish.  Certainly worth a visit if you haven’t been there before.

  1. I went to R. Thomas the other day for lunch and I was sorely disappointed. First, I was surprised at the prices. Healthy food isn’t nearly as expensive or hard to get as it used to be. Secondly, the portions were minuscule — ordered chips and salsa and it should have been called “one ounce of chip crumbs”. Thirdly, my smoothie tasted watered down, especially compared to Arden’s Garden.

There was a time when healthy, organic food was harder to find. I can’t make an excuse for R. Thomas today. They need to adjust or they’ll meet the fate of their neighbors.

    1. well that’s a bummer! Though I consider the prices very reasonable (between $7-11 an entree), I can understand your displeasure. For what it is, i find it enjoyable … somewhere in the 1 to 2 star range. That said, you may be right about a need to up the quality of the food there! I’m not excited to try a smoothie now 🙁 Thanks for the thoughts!
