Chef Paul Albrecht Getting In On A Trend: The Burger Lounge Scheduled For September

Paul Albrecht is no stranger to the Atlanta dining scene.  A founding member of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, he is the purveyor of the namesake Paul’s Restaurant and the newly minted Social Vinings.  Now he and son Patrick, who collectively run the Great Food Inc. restaurant group, are set to open The Burger Lounge in Vinings.

As the name intimates, GFI has elected to get in on the burger craze with their third establishment.  Though we seem to be at the tail end of this trend, there is no reason (other than the economy) to think that this restaurant can’t succeed.

While immediate comparisons between The Burger Lounge and Flip Burger Boutique seem like a forgone conclusion, it appears that Albrecht’s take on the concept will be more yin to the yang that is Flip.

great-food-inc-logoFirst and foremost, it seems the menu at The Burger Lounge will be a little more diverse.  In addition to burgers, there will be hot dogs, homemade sausages, as well as some salads and apps.  Second, Flip is most definitely geared toward the urban-hip 20-something crowd whereas The Burger Joint is being marketed as a family friendly experience.  According to their website, they will have a number of kid friendly activities on site.  For the adult in you, there is also a bar backed by some late evening hours.

While I’m not sure who is responsible for the digs, the look is described as contemporary, casual, and hip.  They go on to say that the space will maintain the small town neighborhood vibe.  Sounds a bit convoluted, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Early menu items hint at the cheesy-trendy mash-up that’s all the rage at Flip.  There is the “Lamburg-ini,” which features ground lamb, foie gras, and balsamic mayonnaise, as well as a Country Fried Steak Burger, and a Lobster Burger.  Add in the kid friendly and adult milkshakes, housemade condiments, and kosher links … and the menu seems pretty well-rounded.

This kid friendly burger spot has taken over the space in The Vinings Jubilee that housed Atlanta Bread Company and Mambo Italiano.  A distinct departure from the refinement of Paul’s and the 30’s/40’s singles scene that is Social Vinings, the Burger Lounge seems like a natural progression.  Meanwhile, I haven’t seen a date listed for a soft or hard opening, so I’ll update ya’ll if I hear of anything.
