J. Christopher’s Restaurant Review – Midtown, Atlanta, GA

Overall:[rating:0]

It’s early AND it’s Saturday AND it’s Valentine’s Day … thus, I’ll be brief.  This morning, I was in midtown, I was hungry, and the nearest thing that wasn’t fast food was J. Christopher’s … ACK!!!!!  I have stopped in at one of their various locations several times over the years; my excuse for today’s visit: I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

Today was not unlike my other meals at JCs. Regardless of the location I choose to eat at, I leave disappointed. The food is bleh, the service is usually bleh, and the atmosphere is bleh.

I’m a night owl, so to coax me out of my slumber for breakfast out, let alone breakfast in, is no easy task.  While most traditional American breakfasts are not complicated, I find that so few cooks/chefs can properly execute this meal.

It’s almost like the soup test for me.  A good cook can make a good omelet.  That said, I’m not 100% sure the problem is with the cooks at JCs.  Eggs are not hard to get in; but, the proteins and such seem totally inadequate, especially given the price point.  I’ve never had a good bagel there (or even a decent one for that matter), and the fruit has never been tasty.  It doesn’t help that most of the hot plates that I get have the fruit hiding under my omelet or pancakes.

The decor reminds me of an "upscale" IHOP and seems cheap.  The wait staff does not seem well trained as they fail to provide good service regardless of location.  Bottom line – eat breakfast somewhere else.  Why I didn’t putter up the street to a place like The Silver Skillet is one of those little mysteries that will go forever unsolved.

There are a couple of breakfast spots in the ATL that I enjoy (Gato Bizco); JCs will probably never be one of them.
